Anime Expeditions Expedition Guide: Payload & Buildings

Learn the level 20 unlock, node choices, building order, team roles, and upgrade decisions that turn Expedition runs into steady progress.

Expedition data check.Unlocks, node rules, materials, and buildings were checked against public guides on 28 July 2026. Exact costs and conversion rates are community-reported and may change. Confirm a cost in your Expedition hub before committing Coins, materials, or Fuel Cells.

How do you unlock Expedition mode?

Reach Player Level 20, then enter the Expedition portal in the main hub. The portal takes you to a separate hub with its own buildings, currencies, Quest Board, maps, and upgrade tree. Unit level is not the unlock condition; the requirement applies to your player account.

If the portal is still unavailable at level 20, rejoin a current server and check the Areas or portal interface again. Do not spend time searching for a hidden item or side quest unless the live interface now shows one. The level requirement was cross-checked in the beginner and Expedition guides, but the game client is the final check after an update.

Reaching level 20 does not mean your roster is ready for every Expedition. Enter the first map to learn the payload and node loop, collect partial rewards, and improve the hub. A failed run still reportedly pays according to the distance reached, so early attempts can contribute to the next upgrade.

What makes Expedition different from Story mode?

Expedition replaces a fixed base with a moving payload. Enemies approach from several directions, deployment space is limited, and the next checkpoint changes what the run asks you to do. You are defending the vehicle throughout the route rather than a single end point.

That difference changes placement. A unit tucked into one corner may cover only a small slice of the action after the payload turns. Place units where their range covers multiple approach angles, keep utility near the space it must protect, and avoid using every slot before you know what later nodes will require.

The current building-order guide also reports that normal unit traits are disabled in Expedition. That raises the importance of base stats, evolution, equipment, role coverage, and hub research. Check the current run interface for active modifiers because a later update may change how traits or other bonuses apply.

How does a payload run work?

A run moves through a visible sequence of nodes. Watch the progress bar at the top of the HUD so you can bank money, hold an ability, or prepare a placement before the next node starts. Enemies attack the payload directly, and the run ends if the vehicle cannot survive the route.

Spend for the next known problem, not only the current wave. If an Elite or Boss node is coming, stop buying marginal upgrades on secondary units and finish the carry, support, or payload improvement that will matter during that fight. If a Checkpoint is ahead, keep enough money to use its hiring option only if the offered unit fills a real gap.

Partial rewards make controlled pushing worthwhile. When a stage is slightly beyond your current team, run it far enough to earn materials, identify the failure point, reinvest, and return. Repeating the same attempt without buying a useful building or research upgrade is not progression; it is only repetition.

What happens at each Expedition node?

Each node has a distinct purpose. Reading the next icon is one of the easiest improvements you can make because it tells you whether to prepare for duration, burst, hiring, or enemies from several directions.

NodeReported ruleBest preparation
DefenseDefeat 10 waves while riding the payload.Build broad, sustainable coverage and avoid spending all money on one late unit.
CheckpointHire units at a set in-run price.Buy only if the hire covers a missing job or saves more than an equivalent placement.
AssaultThe payload slows while enemies attack from all sides.Use range that covers several angles and keep emergency money for leaks.
EliteClear five waves of elite enemies and bosses.Concentrate upgrades, save abilities, and maintain boss damage.
BossFight a boss with regular enemies while the payload slows sharply.Balance single-target pressure with enough cleanup for the accompanying wave.

At nodes, the mode reportedly offers three modifiers with positive or negative effects. Read all three before choosing. The strongest-looking modifier is not always the best one; a modest economy or payload option can be more valuable when the current team already has enough damage but is short on money or survival.

Which Expedition map should you farm?

Farm the map that drops the main material for your next building. All three reported stages share Expedition Coins, Fuel Cells, and Equipment Scrap, while each has one map-specific construction material.

StageMain materialShared dropsWhen to return
School GroundsCursed TimberExpedition Coins, Fuel Cells, Equipment ScrapFarm early building needs, especially the reported Resource Drill requirement.
Flower ForestLush DirtExpedition Coins, Fuel Cells, Equipment ScrapUse when a chosen building specifically asks for Lush Dirt.
Rose KingdomAqua ShardExpedition Coins, Fuel Cells, Equipment ScrapUse for later Aqua Shard costs once the preceding map is cleared.

The maps unlock in order according to the building guide. Do not park on the highest map just because it is later. A lower map can be the correct farm when its material completes a useful building sooner. Check the route preview for upcoming rewards, then steer toward the item that closes your current shortfall.

What is the best Expedition building order?

The most recent building guide recommends Armory, Gold Mine, Expedition Center Level 2, Gold Mine Level 2, Resource Drill, Research Lab, Quest Board, Expedition Shop, then Training Grounds. That order favors permanent production and equipment tools before consumable shop purchases.

  1. Build the Armory. It opens equipment forging, rerolling, and dismantling, which can improve units used beyond Expedition.
  2. Start the Gold Mine. Turning Fuel Cells into Gold creates a passive source for later upgrades.
  3. Raise the Expedition Center to Level 2. The reported dependency must be met before the Gold Mine can reach Level 2.
  4. Upgrade the Gold Mine. The current guide reports roughly twice the Gold output at Level 2.
  5. Save for the Resource Drill. It converts Fuel Cells into Geodes, which can return Gems, rerolls, Trait Crystals, and other materials.
  6. Open the Research Lab. Permanent payload, placement, modifier, and economy research improves future runs.
  7. Add the Quest Board. Daily, Weekly, and Permanent objectives provide more Gold, Gems, and Expedition Coins.
  8. Use the Expedition Shop later. Consumables help, but an early purchase can delay a permanent producer.
  9. Leave Training Grounds until the core economy works. Passive Unit XP and Worthiness are useful, but easier to replace than early Coin and resource production.

This is a sensible default, not a command for every account. If a specific building requirement changed or your account already has more Gold than equipment, follow the current cost and your real bottleneck. What matters is the principle: buy permanent throughput before optional consumption.

Why is the Armory usually first?

The Armory lets you forge, reroll, and dismantle equipment. Better gear helps the same roster clear later nodes more reliably, which returns more materials for every other structure. That compounding effect gives the Armory value inside and outside the Expedition hub.

Do not reroll every piece simply because the feature is open. Start with equipment on a unit you regularly place, compare the stat to the unit's role, and stop when the next reroll costs more than the likely improvement. The items and equipment guide lists current gear uses and acquisition notes.

When should you upgrade the Gold Mine?

Build it early, then raise the Expedition Center before buying Gold Mine Level 2. The guide reports that a supplied Level 2 mine can produce more than one million Gold per day, but that result depends on Fuel Cells and the current conversion values. Treat the number as a dated community report, not a guaranteed daily income.

A passive mine does not make Gold free. Fuel Cells also power the Resource Drill, so decide which output is currently more valuable. Use some cells for urgent Gold when a specific upgrade is blocked, but avoid emptying the inventory just before the Drill or a building level improves conversion.

When should you save for the Resource Drill?

Save before making optional Expedition Shop purchases. The 27 July building guide reports a Resource Drill cost of 750 Expedition Coins and about 150 Cursed Timber. Confirm both values in your hub, then reserve the remaining amount so a small purchase does not delay the build.

The Drill turns Fuel Cells into Geodes. Reported Geode rewards include Gems, Stat Rerolls, Equipment Rerolls, Trait Crystals, and other materials. That makes it a long-term resource engine rather than a one-time payout. School Grounds is the relevant early farm because it provides Cursed Timber.

Fuel Cells reportedly cap at 1,000. Higher building levels improve conversion, so hold a large stack when an upgrade is close. Spend sooner only when the current output unlocks something that improves runs now. Hoarding while every useful unit remains underbuilt is no better than wasting cells at a poor rate.

Which Research Lab upgrades should come first?

Start with payload placement, then Yen generation, damage, and resource generation according to the current building guide. More placements immediately increase the roles and damage you can bring. More Yen pays for placements, unit upgrades, repairs, hires, and other in-run decisions. Damage improves consistency after those two foundations work.

Resource generation is useful, but it cannot rescue a run that fails before reaching later nodes. Buy survival and clear consistency first, then increase yield. If the live tree presents different names or prerequisites, keep the same question in mind: which upgrade converts directly into more successful distance on the next run?

How should you use the Quest Board and Expedition Shop?

Read the Quest Board before starting a session. Daily, Weekly, and Permanent quests reportedly reward Gold, Gems, and Expedition Coins for actions such as defeating enemies and extracting from a map. Choosing a stage that advances a quest and a building material target gives one run two purposes.

Use the shop after the permanent buildings are on schedule. It reportedly carries Gems, Gold, Stat Locks, Stat Rerolls, Trait Crystals, and related supplies. Buy an item only when you can name the unit or upgrade that will use it. “It might be useful later” is not a strong reason to delay the Research Lab or Resource Drill.

What team works best on the payload?

Use a compact group with early damage, wider coverage, boss pressure, and support that remains effective from several angles. A unit that depends on one fixed lane may lose value as the payload moves. Range and placement flexibility often matter more than a small tier-grade difference.

  • Place one affordable damage unit early so the run does not spend its opening money recovering from leaks.
  • Add an area unit where it covers converging paths, not at the first visually open tile.
  • Reserve one placement or enough money for the mechanic shown by the next node.
  • Use equipment and Stat Potential that fit the unit, since the current guide reports normal traits as disabled.
  • In co-op, agree on who spends for damage, utility, and economy so several players do not duplicate the same job.

Do not copy a late-game team you cannot afford to deploy. The best Expedition roster is the one that reaches its useful upgrades before the payload is in danger.

Why does an Expedition run fail, and how do you fix it?

If enemies chip the payload from several directions, improve coverage and placements. If an Elite node stalls, concentrate upgrades and retain boss pressure. If money runs out before a Boss node, buy Yen research, reduce unnecessary hires, or stop over-upgrading secondary units. If every run reaches the same point, reinvest the partial rewards instead of immediately repeating it.

Check whether the chosen map pays the material you need, whether the next building has a Center-level dependency, and whether Fuel Cells are being consumed at a weak conversion level. These quiet economy mistakes can hold the account back even when the combat roster is good.

What is a useful 30-minute Expedition routine?

  1. Read the Quest Board and name one building or research target.
  2. Check the required map material and remaining Coin cost.
  3. Equip the small set of units you can deploy and upgrade reliably.
  4. Run the matching map, watching the node preview before each spending decision.
  5. Record the material, Coins, Fuel Cells, and distance from the completed or failed run.
  6. Buy the planned permanent upgrade when available.
  7. Run again only if the same map still pays the next bottleneck.

This routine measures progress by useful upgrades rather than raw run count. When the target switches from Cursed Timber to Lush Dirt, or from Coins to research, switch the route with it.
